CHETOPA — Edward Eugene “Pete” Overman, 85, of Chetopa died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at his home.

He was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Columbus to Roscoe Clifford and Settie Mae (Jackson) Overman. He grew up and attended schools in Columbus, where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Retha L. Brillhart on June 11, 1950, at the Presbyterian Church in Oswego. She preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2007.

He and his wife owned Chetopa Grain, retiring from there in 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Doug Overman of Welch, Okla., and Bob Overman of Chetopa; a daughter, Carol Weaver of Welch, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Wilson of Geneseo, Ill.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. Friends may call at their convenience from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. today at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
