CHANUTE — Cora May Umbarger, 90, of Chanute died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Chanute Health Care Center.

She was born in St. Paul on Feb. 7, 1920, the daughter of Silas Elmer and Cora May (Thompson) Newland.

She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1938.

Mrs. Umbarger was a homemaker.

She married Myrle Umbarger in Chanute on Nov. 2, 1958. He preceded her in death in 1987.

She was a member of the Christian Church and enjoyed church activities. She also loved quilting.

Survivors include four daughters, Kathy Sehorn and her husband, Tony, of Chanute, Betty Engle of Topeka, Kay Engle of Strafford, Mo., and May Mead and her husband, Jim Houghton, of Nortonville; two stepsons, John Dale Umbarger and his wife, Judy, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Roger Umbarger and his wife, Phyllis, of Independence, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Sharon Greve of Chanute; 13 grandchildren; three sisters, Flossie Burton of Independence, Nell Cook of Chanute and Cleta Kaesemeyer of Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Joe Newland of Stanfield, Ore.; several great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, N. Ferd Engle and Raymond Engle; seven grandchildren; four brothers; two sisters; and one stepson-in-law, Larry Greeve.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute.

Memorials in her name may be made to Osage Mission-Neosho County Museum, 203 Washington, St. Paul, 66771, and may be left with the funeral home.
