INDEPENDENCE -- Gary Dean Clark, 71, of Independence died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1937, in Caney to Carl and Edith (Lurlee) Clark. He grew up in Tyro and graduated from high school in Caney. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He received his college degree in architecture and was self-employed until his retirement.

Survivors include a son, Carl Dean Clark of Springfield, Mo.; four daughters, Sarah Marie Clark of Cherryvale, Sherry Clark, Kelly Miller and Vickey Clark, all of Springfield, Mo.; a grandchild; and a brother, Steven Clark of Webb City, Mo.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. today at Fawn Creek Cemetery in Tyro under the direction of Potts Chapel.

The family has suggested memorials to St. Andrew's Catholic Church and they may be left with the funeral home.
