Velma L. Hollon, 87, of Columbus, formerly of Oswego, died at 6:40 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Medicalodge of Columbus, where she had resided the past two years.

She was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Oswego to Elmer Dale and Maggie Mae (Stice) Richardson. She was a lifelong resident of Southeast Kansas, where she grew up and attended Gore School.

She enjoyed flower gardening and helping her children with their cattle operations.

She married Clarence Lindley “Lin” Hollon on July 17, 1947. He preceded her in death Oct. 20, 1987.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Hollon and his wife, Brenda, of Carl Junction, Mo., Eugene Hollon and his wife, Judy, of Oswego and Dallas Lynn Hollon and his wife, Julie, of Pueblo, Colo.; a daughter, Bridgett Rebecca “Becky” Landers and her husband, Greg, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Domeny and her husband, Paul, of Mounds, Okla.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dannie Richardson; a sister, Marie Gillespie; a son, Larry Dean Hollon, on June 2, 1984; and a great-grandson, Daniel Cosgrove.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
