She was born Dec. 13, 1917, at Alva, Okla., a daughter of Theodore Calvin and Hazel (Cole) Schwennesen. She was raised in Alva and graduated from Alva High School in 1935.
On Dec. 15, 1935, she married Willard D. Garrett at Alva. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2000.
The couple moved to Independence in 1941 and then to Parsons in 1954. In 1956 they moved to Houston, where they resided for 21 years. They returned to Independence in 1977 and in 1981 they moved to Parsons.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was formerly an active member of the Ruskin Club at Parsons. She enjoyed sewing and needlepoint in her younger years and more recently enjoyed playing the organ and reading.
Survivors include a son, Willard D. "Bill" Garrett, and his wife, Judy, of Parsons; a daughter, Barbara Brokovich and her husband, Michael J., of Abilene, Texas; four grandchildren, Jeff Brokovich and his wife, Laura, of Abilene, Texas, Michelle Brockwell and her husband, Wayne, of Glen Allen, Va., Charles Brokovich and his wife, Ashley, of Atlanta and Jennifer Menghini and her husband, Anthony, of Frontenac; seven great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Hope Cemetery at Independence with the Rev. Sharlyn Gates officiating. The casket will remain closed, but friends may call at Carson-Wall Funeral Home at their convenience to register.
