GIRARD -- Ivan Breneman, 97, of Girard died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, in the Girard Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 6, 1911, at rural Parsons, a son of Christoph Samuel and Agnes Virginia (Oler) Breneman. His stepmother was Katheryn (Wells) Breneman.

He attended grade school in Galesburg and graduated from Parsons High School.

He married Grace L. Trabue on Aug. 7, 1933, in Parsons. She preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2007.

He owned and operated Breneman Auto Parts in Girard since 1935.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Girard, a charter member of the Girard Lions Club, the Girard Area Chamber of Commerce, a director and past interim president of the First National Bank in Girard, a former member of the Girard school board and a former director of the board and part owner of VaCoHy Printing, now F.M.I., of Girard.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald J. Breneman and his wife, Mary, and Roger L. Breneman and his wife, Cheryl, all of Girard; four grandchildren, Diane Breneman of Leawood, Mark Breneman of Irvine, Calif., Meghan Breneman and Erin Senecaut, both of Girard; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Munson of Nowata, Okla.;s and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Merle Breneman, Everett Breneman and Melvin Breneman; and a stepbrother, Melvin Wells.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Girard with the Rev. Steve Cole officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard, where friends may call after 2 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Girard or the Girard Lions Club and these may be left at the church or the funeral home, 518 W. St. John, Box 258 , Girard, 66743.
