A Parsons teenager died Tuesday morning in a car accident, a week after he graduated from Parsons High School.

Calvin A. Priest, 18, of Parsons was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened at 10:42 a.m. Tuesday on Queens Road at the intersection with 70th Road, which is about three miles south of K-47.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Priest was northbound on Queens Road, known locally as Bowling Alley Road, in a 1999 GMC Suburban. The vehicle left the road on the right side. Priest veered back onto the road, overcorrected and the vehicle overturned. Priest was not wearing a seat belt.

Priest, a cross country standout at PHS, graduated May 13.

Year after year Parsons keeps losing its best and brightest. I may not have known Calvin very well, but I did know Taran Sack, Matt Moore, Jeremy Gamblain and every other too young to lose Parsons High School graduates. My thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends.
