She was born Nov. 19, 1936, on the family farm in Bourbon County, Kan., to Andra P. and Ernestine Olive (Kusel) Stephens. She began grade school in nearby Walnut and graduating from Erie High School in 1954. She became a telephone operator in Parsons.
In 1955, she married Gaylord Carlyle Hinshaw of Parsons. They followed careers in the petroleum industry in numerous areas across the country. She retired from IHS, a petroleum industry data collecting and publishing company in Oklahoma City in 2004.
Survivors include her children, Gaylord Carlyle Hinshaw II of Norman, Okla., Grady Lewis Hinshaw of Windber, Pa., and Deborah Ann Hinshaw of Arlington, Va.; a sister, Mary O'Neal of Parsons; and a brother, William Stephens of Winfield.
Mrs. Hinshaw has been cremated. A private memorial service is planned. Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave., Norman, Okla., 73071, is in charge of arrangements.
