INDEPENDENCE — Ray Francis Turner, 86, of Independence died at 11:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010.

He was born on June 15, 1923, at his home in Stark City, Mo., to John Riley and Sarah Francis (Bowman) Turner.

He married Janie Odessa Cargile on Aug. 18, 1945, in Columbus. She survives.

He worked for Ruan Transport for 22 years as a driver and trainer before retiring in 1985.

Other survivors include a brother, Gene Turner of Granby, Mo.; two sons, Otis Turner of Blue Springs, Mo., and Ray Dean Turner of Independence; a daughter, Patty (Turner) Johnston of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Community Christian Church in Independence. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, 405 Main.
