ROCKAWAY BEACH, Mo. — Charles R. Hoskins, 77, of Rockaway Beach, Missouri, died at 4:59 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Kansas City Veterans Administration Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.

He was born Jan. 11, 1933, in Ponca City, Okla., to Arvil and Leona (Ray) Hoskins. He grew up and attended schools in Ponca City. In 1951, he entered the U.S. Army and in 1953 received an honorable discharge.

On Jan. 11, 1987, he married Barbara J. Wolverton in Ponca City. In 1988, the couple moved to the Branson, Mo., area, where they have lived since. Through the years, he worked as an appraiser at Taney County Courthouse until retirement in the late 1990s. Following retirement, he managed motels for several years in the Branson area.

He enjoyed animals of all kinds and especially enjoyed being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. Hoskins of the home; a son, Charles “Chuck” Hoskins of Dallas; a stepson, Rick Wilson of Oswego; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Donelson of Dennis; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leon Hoskins of Gaston, Ala., and Orville Hoskins of Indianapolis, Ind.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Mitchell Cemetery north of Oswego near Montana. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
