ALTAMONT — Imogene I. Rankins, 80, of Altamont died at 3:35 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Labette Health.

She was born on June 12, 1929, in Altamont to Hendrick “Alfred” and Margie (Warbington) Raymond. As a young girl, she grew up in Altamont, where she attended schools and was a 1946 graduate of Labette County Community High School.

She married Eugene Ellis Rankins on Sept. 11, 1946, in rural Edna. They made their home in Altamont, where they raised their family of seven children. Imogene worked at Arkhaven Nursing Home in Altamont for 34 years as a certified medication aide.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening and studying Altamont history. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include five sons, Gaylan Rankins and his wife, Terri, of Altamont, Gail Rankins of Evesham, England, Gary Rankins and his wife, Vickie, of Altamont, Alfred Rankins of Leavenworth and Greg Rankins and his wife, Angie, of Altamont; two daughters, Charolette Irvine of Mound City and Cindy Vanderford and her husband, Ronnie, of Altamont; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donnie Raymond and his wife, Barb, of Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Rankins, on April 19, 1999; and a brother, Larry Raymond.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont.
