BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — James Leroy “Jim” Hodgkinson, 78, of Bartlesville, Okla., died Tuesday at Jane Phillips Medical Center.

He was born on Jan. 19, 1932, in Parsons to Glen and Audrey Viola (Bowman) Hodgkinson. He was raised in Parsons and graduated from Parsons High School. He also graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1955.

He married Laverne Johnston on May 31, 1953.

He had worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for many years.

He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He also was a member of the USS Sperry reunion group.

He is survived by his wife, Laverne of the home; two daughters, Nancy Dowe and her husband, Roger, and Catherine Shepherd and her husband, Mike, all of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Wanda Hevel and her husband, Lewis, of Parsons; and four grandchildren, Patrick Murrell, Amy Kate Murrell, Rachel Dowe and Andrew Dowe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Sarah Rebekah Dowe and Ryan Murrell.

The service was on Thursday at First Christian Church with Dennis Voth officiating. Services were directed by Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
