CHETOPA — Bessie A. Goldsmith Cary, 90, of Chetopa died at 7:28 a.m. Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Chetopa Manor.

She was born Jan. 11, 1920, the fifth of 10 children to Robert Bruce and Mary Elizabeth (Wiley) Tullis. She attended schools in Bartlett and was a 1940 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

She married Willis G. Goldsmith in 1946 in Norwich. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1973. Following his death, she attended Coffeyville Community College, where she earned her vocational training certificate in food service supervision and later worked at Retirement Acres Nursing Home in Altamont in food service until she remarried.

She married Alden Cary in 1980 in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1998.

Survivors include a son, Larry Goldsmith of rural Altamont; a brother, Verl ‘Tom’ Tullis of Bartlett; and a sister, Leta Cunningham of Weir.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bartlett United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
