He was born May 13, 1931, in Mound Valley to Herschel C. and Mary E. (Fields) Shearhart. He grew up and attended school in Mound Valley and, as a young adult, moved to California, where he lived several years before returning to Kansas in 1976.
He was employed by USD 506 as head custodian at Labette County High School in Altamont for 17 years before retiring on June 30, 1994.
He was a member of Mound Valley Lighthouse. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work, fishing, camping and spending time with his family and friends.
He married Fina Sanchez on Feb. 1, 1976, in Las Vegas.
She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include two sons, John Shearhart of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Micheal Shearhart of Parsons; four daughters, Barbara Shearhart of Independence, Darlene Purdy of Parsons, Carmen Cain of Springfield, Mo., and Sandra Baker of Parsons; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Shearhart and Bob Shearhart.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mound Valley Lighthouse. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
