WICHITA — Carol J. (Ackley) Arie, 72, of Wichita, formerly of Parsons, passed away quietly and peacefully with her family at her side at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Via Christi-St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She had been in failing health.
She was born July 28, 1937, in Kansas City, Kan., to Clarence D. and Opal M. (Benjamin) Ackley. At a young age, her family moved to Parsons where she grew up and attended school. She spent the last two years in Wichita at Manor Care Health Center and Catholic Care Center and continued her helpful ministry to the other residents who lived there.
On March 25, 1956, she and Gary Allen were married in Parsons. They later divorced. She and Gerald Arie were married Oct. 5, 1970, in Miami, Okla. They later divorced.
Through the years, she worked in Parsons at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home from 1966-1976 in food service and as a nurse’s aide, as a seamstress at The Broderick Co. from 1976-1986, a laundry attendant at Fabric Care Center from 1986-2001 and as a housekeeper at Woodworth Community Services.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Parsons. She especially enjoyed spending time and playing cards with her family and friends and will be missed by all.
Survivors include a son, Joseph D. Arie of Independence; three daughters, Margaret E. (Allen) Robinson and her husband, Steve, of Fort Worth, Texas, Sonja J. (Allen) Newby and her husband, Alan, of Tulsa, and Lisa K. (Allen) Wood and her husband, Brad, of Wichita; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert D. Ackley of Parsons; and two sisters, Patricia (Ackley) Wise of Wellsville and Linda K. (Ackley) Creekkiller of Parsons.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Ackley in 2004 and James Ackley in 2009; and a sister, Trudy (Ackley) Roper in 1985.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
