GALESBURG — June H. White, 91, of Galesburg died at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at her home.

She was born July 31, 1918, at Meridian, Miss., to Harry and Anna Ethel (McConnell) Lawrence.

Her family later moved to Burlington, where she attended Burlington High School.

She married Lawrence Dewey, and they later divorced. On Dec. 11, 1946, she married James R. “Jim” White at Burlington. They moved to Galesburg in 1960. Mr. White preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 2009.

Mrs. White was a member of Galesburg Christian Church. She was a homemaker, who for many years belonged to a home demonstration unit and had served on the Neosho County Fair Board and the Neosho County Election Board and had been Democratic chairman for Neosho County.

She served as director of the Galesburg Senior Citizens Center for many years and had served as president of her T.O.P.S. group. She enjoyed baking, quilting and embroidery and reined as the family’s Scrabble champ. Music was also a very important aspect of her life.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Dewey of Chanute and Britton White of Galesburg; two daughters, Christine Mayfield of Galesburg and Kathryn Gill of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A brother, Kenneth D. Lawrence, preceded her in death.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Burlington.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
