McCUNE — Alice C. Parsons, 93, of McCune died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, in the Good Samaritan Society of Parsons.
She was born April 1, 1916, on East Quincy east of Pittsburg near the Missouri line to George and Maud Ann (Roberson) Heilman. She attended country schools east of Opolis, south of Liberal, Mo., north of Croweburg, east of Farlington and graduated from Liberty District No. 69 northwest of McCune in 1929.
She married Homer F. Parsons on March 15, 1933, at the Crawford County Courthouse in Girard. They made their home on the farm northwest of McCune, where they engaged in farming. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1987. She was always the good farm wife and farmed right alongside her husband for many years. She faithfully cared for her husband who was in poor health a few years before his passing and continued the farm operation until now. She has lived 77 years up on Homer’s Hill. She was a member of the Seniors of Pittsburg. She was a charter member of the Friendly Neighbors Quilting Club in the neighborhood and a 4-H project leader for many years. She loved her Lord, her friends, neighbors and her family. She enjoyed quilting, bread making and traveling.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Parsons and his wife, Brenda, of McCune, Roy Parsons and his wife, Martha, of rural McCune; a daughter, Katheryn Coonrod and her husband, Keith, of rural McCune; grandchildren, Kim VanDorn and her husband Rick, Kelley Farrell and her husband, Tim, Katrina Fox and her husband, Todd, Russel Parsons, Vicki Parsons and Wesley Coonrod; great-grandchildren, Randy VanDorn, Kristal Engroff, Willie VanDorn, Summer Dela Cruz, Andrew VanDorn, Jared Farrell, Gage Fox, Baylie Fox, Kaden Fox; a great-great-grandson,Christian Engroff; a brother, Kenneth Heilman of Frontenac; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, August Joseph Heilman, William “Bill” Heilman and Orville “Moe” Heilman; three sisters, Georgia Barton, Minnie Elvey and Alta Kernick; and a great-grandson, Joshua Farrell.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McCune Cemetery with the Revs. Clair Uitts and Daren Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday.
