Penny Sturgeon, 53, of Parsons died at 8:21 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, in the emergency room of Labette Health.

She was born Oct. 16, 1956, at Bethany, Mo., to Earl and Mildred (Turner) Sturgeon. At the age 5 she moved with her family to King City, Mo., where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1975. In 1978 the family moved to Joplin and to Parsons in 1981. She attended Western Missouri State University at St. Joseph for one year.

She had worked a few years as a personal caregiver and from 1992 to 1999 was a nursery attendant at Parsons Foursquare Church. She was a member of the Foursquare Church.

Survivors include six sisters, Donna Kneib of Easton, Mo., Deloris Moore of Broken Arrow, Okla., Sharon Thaxton of Fairfield, Calif., Shirlie Sidney of Blue Springs, Mo., Lois Taulbert of Olathe and Beverly Carlson of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents preceded her in death.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends for an hour before the funeral service.
