Nellie Mae Journot, 94, of Parsons died at 12:21 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Elmhaven West nursing home in Parsons.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1916, in Bloomington, Ill., to William E. and Susie (Duvall) McNamara. At the age of 2, she moved with her family to Parsons, where she attended schools. She was a 1933 graduate of Parsons High School and attended Parsons Junior College.

On July 2, 1934, she married Emanuel B. Journot at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2001.

For many years, she was an Avon representative and managed several rental properties.

She was a member of the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church, now St. Patrick’s, its Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella.

She enjoyed making ceramics and especially received great pleasure in making rosaries for family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Edward “Pete” Journot and his wife, Leona, of Parsons and Arley J. Journot and his wife, Patricia, of Parsons; four daughters, Kathleen O’Neal of Parsons, Judy Cupp and her husband, Wayne, of Parsons, Reginae “Jeannie” Lansman and herhusband, Gale, of Columbia, Mo., and Patricia Rich of Parsons; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Pabst of Sedalia, Mo.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Tom and Jim McNamara; and a grandson, Mitch Journot.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons, where the family will receive friends immediately following.
