COLUMBUS — George Daniel “Dan” Homan, 58, of Columbus died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at his home following a long illness.
He was born Nov. 3, 1951, in Parsons to Oris T. and Rusti Homan. He was a lifelong resident of the area and resided in Parsons, Pittsburg, Scammon and most recently Columbus. He earned a bachelor of science degree at Pittsburg State University in social psychology.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving as a corpsman and earning the rank of E-6 from 1971-1977.
In May 1983, he married Terri L. Jordan in Parsons. She survives at the home.
Prior to becoming ill, Mr. Homan was in the furniture restoration and antiques business. He enjoyed fishing, and his family was the most important thing in his life.
Survivors include his wife; mother; children, Joshua Homan of Liberty, Mo., Jerry Homan of Fontana, Calif., Jonathon Gillis of Fredericksburg, Texas, and Christopher Gillis of Columbus; many grandchildren; sisters, Kathy Hunter of Ajo, Ariz., Sheryl McClendon of Tyler, Texas, Lucinda Merryfield of East Sussex, England, and Shelly Billington of Chanute; a brother, Mike Homan of Wichita; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Margaret “Sunny” Buterfield.
A graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Park Cemetery in Columbus with elders Wayne Dobkins and Don Johnson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion of Columbus.
