Mildred Brooks, 89, of Parsons died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor. She had been in failing health the past few weeks.
She was born Nov. 4, 1920, at Pittsburg to Earl and Ida (Sipes) Wright. She grew up in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School. She attended a cosmetology school in Fort Scott and worked in that field briefly.
On June 15, 1940, she married Raymond Brooks at Pryor, Okla. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1990 and he preceded her in death on May 1, 1994.
Mrs. Brooks worked as a bookkeeper/secretary at the Skelgas Co. office in Parsons for many years until she retired. She was a member of First Christian Church of Parsons and had been active as a pink lady for the Labette County Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Donald Brooks of Raymore, Mo.; a daughter, Sharon Norway and her husband, Ron, of Holiday Island, Ark.; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Wright and Douglas Wright; and a sister, Mardell Russell.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Following the service, the family will gather at the Sirloin Stockade in Parsons for dinner.
