He was born on March 23, 1928, near Neodesha to Henry James and Julia Ann (Cooper) Ellis. He grew up on the family farm and at Parsons. He attended Parsons schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953.
He married Anna Racy on June 28, 1954, at First Assembly of God Church in Parsons. She survives of the home.
He worked at Parsons Cold Storage until 1971. He then worked for the city of Parsons in the Sanitation Department until his retirement in 1993.
He enjoyed country music and collecting cans for recycling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathy Gitchell of Parsons and Julia Gitchell of Redding, Calif.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jewel James of Parsons.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home at their convenience.
