CANEY — Twila B. “Tillie” Nutter, 88, of Caney died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

She was born June 16, 1921, near Elk City to Walter and Bertha (Winebrenner) Huffer. She grew up and attended rural schools in Montgomery and Chautauqua counties and graduated from Peru High School.

On May 5, 1939, she married Leon Nutter at Independence. Following their marriage they lived in Montgomery and Chautauqua counties and for several years near Copan, Okla., before moving to Caney, where they lived for more than 40 years. Mr. Nutter preceded her in death in 1998.

Mrs. Nutter was a seamstress and did work for many people. She loved her work, and her passion was crocheting and sharing her beautiful handwork with her family and friends.

She was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Gary Nutter and his wife, Beverly, of Parsons; three grandsons; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and her beloved companion, James Briscoe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers.

The service will be at 1 p.m. today at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan with the Rev. John Warring officiating. Private family burial will be in the Peru Cemetery at Peru.

The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association and they may be left with the funeral home or mailed to 209 North Douglas, Sedan, 67361.
