Verdna M. Kirk, 86, of Parsons died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
She was born June 6, 1923, near Gentry, Ark., a daughter of Clyde Dix and Abbigal Winfred (Chancey) Hamsher. She attended the first three grades of elementary school at Vega, Texas, and then moved to Parsons with her family in the early 1930s.
On May 24, 1942, she married Charles Ray Kirk at Fredonia. He preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1978.
She was a member of Westside Christian Church at Parsons. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and was a member of the Labette Health Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include a son, Donald Ray Kirk and his wife, Glenda, of Olathe; a daughter, Jeanette Winkelman and her husband, Bruce, of Tulsa; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons; and two brothers, Dix and Jerry.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen and Reva.
The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Baty officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will received friends from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
