OLATHE — Patrick B. O’Hara, 62, died on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at his home in Olathe after a year-long battle with cancer.

He was born May 18, 1947, in Parsons to Francis and Mary Jane O’Hara. He graduated from St Patrick’s Catholic High School, Labette County Community College and Pittsburg State University

He served in the U.S. Army, and was a Vietnam veteran with the 101st Airborne. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad after 34 years of service as an engineer.

He was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe.

Survivors include his wife, Carole; three sons, David O’Hara and his wife, Tracey, Michael O’Hara and his wife, Stephanie, and John O’Hara and his wife, Raquel; a daughter, Jane Melichar, and her husband, Mike; 10 grandchildren, Shaun, Haleigh, Derek, Michael, Megan, Ciara, Cailyn, Johnny, Jaclyn and Brian; his brother, Michael O’Hara; three sisters Shirley Casey, Mary Jo Ruttgen and Cathy Woolard; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The service will be at 11 a.m. today at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W 143rd St., Olathe. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. today at the church. Interment will be at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens in Shawnee.

Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe, is in charge of arrangements.
