INDEPENDENCE — Leslie H. Briggs, 73, of Independence died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 28, 1935, in Elgin, Okla., to Wesley and Kathleen (Dotson) Briggs. he graduated from Elgin High School and earned an engineering degree from Washburn University.
Mr. Briggs was a lead person at Emerson Electric for eight years. He had served in the Army National Guard with the 45th Infantry as a cook.
He married Jo Benning Hills on May 23, 1980, in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Leslie D. Briggs of Fort Worth, Texas, Norman Ray Hills of Edna and Leon Hills of Valeda; three daughters, Lisa Michelle Weingartner of Yapank, N.Y., Traci Koca of Shawnee and Susan Newman of Coffeyville; a brother, Glen Briggs of Junction City; and two sisters, Linda Dunn of Marlow, Okla., and Eleanor Schriver of Albuquerque, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Judy Hill and Gail Bohr.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Potts Chapel in Independence. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Independence. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.
