CHERRYVALE -- Charles D. Van Cleave, 74, of Cherryvale died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at his home in Cherryvale.
He was born Nov. 10, 1933, in Liberty to John and Pauline (Maxon) Van Cleave. He grew up in Liberty and attended schools there.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
On March 30, 1958, Charles married Jaquenda "Jackie" Bright in Cherryvale. She survives of the home.
He worked for Katy Railroad as a car man from 1965 to 1985.
Survivors include a son, Vernon John of Lenapaw, Okla.; two daughters, Susan C. Searles of Cherryvale and Sondra D. Harris of St. Paul; three sisters, Audrey Switzer and Mary Ellis, both of Cherryvale, and Lois Baker of Altamont; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at New Hope Christian Church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel of Cherryvale.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Potts Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or the New Hope Christian Church Building Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
