Frank L. Aikins, 68, of rural Parsons died at 2:51 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield. His death was unexpected.

He was born March 3, 1941, in Parsons the son of Clarence E. and Cloie L. (Pike) Aikins. He graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont in 1959.

Throughout his adult life he was involved in farming and raising cattle. He enjoyed golfing and fishing with his grandchildren and taking them on vacation trips.

On July 10, 1958, he married Saundra “Sonnie” Allen in Girard. She survives of the home.

Survivors include a son, Derrick Aikins and his wife, Tammey, of rural Parsons; three granddaughters, Shayla Aikins, Shondra Aikins and Shelby Aikins, all of Parsons; a stepsister, Sharon McBride of Merriam; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, LaWayne Aikins, on July 2, 1981; an infant son, Chris Aikins, in 1961; and a sister, Betty Smith.

The service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery Patio. Burial will follow in the family lot.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
