ERIE — Penny Darlene (Wolken) Sexton, 53, of Erie died at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She had been in failing health.

She was born on June 30, 1956, at Chanute to Harmon E. Sr. and Frances J. (Wheeler) Wolken. She was raised in Buffalo and moved to Erie in 1978.

For many years, she raised foster children in her home and greatly touched their lives. She also worked part time at the Sidewalk Cafe.

She was married to David Sexton on Oct. 5, 1985, at Miami, Okla. They later divorced.

She attended First Baptist Church at Erie. She enjoyed camping and four-wheeling. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandson, Logan.

Survivors include a son, Brandon E. Wolken of Erie; a daughter, Kaisya Sexton of Erie; a grandson, Logan Matthew Wolken of Erie; her parents, Harmon and Frances Wolken of Erie; four brothers Harmon Eugene Wolken Jr., and his wife, Debbie, of Girard, Michael Dale Wolken and his wife, Donna of Erie, Kevin Wolken Sr., and his wife, Vicki, of Conway Springs, Wendell Wolken and his wife, Christy, of Riverton; three sisters, Kim Russell and her husband, Mike of Altoona, Brenda Welch and her husband, Jess, of Erie and Karen Showalter and her husband, Skip, of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Bruce Wolken.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Erie. The body will be cremated following the visitation. The memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at East Hill Cemetery with the Rev. John Turner officiating.

Memorials are suggested to an education fund established for her daughter, Kaisya Sexton, and her grandson, Logan Matthew Wolken, and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 182, Erie, 66733.
