OSWEGO -- Bertha Jones, 97, of Oswego died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at Oswego Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on April 11, 1991, in Jackson, Ky., to Robert and Sarah (Back) Hall. She worked for the Kansas Ordnance Plant during World War II. She was a wonderful cook and worked at several restaurants in Oswego. She was a very loving mother and will be missed by her children and family.

Survivors include four sons, Leroy Jones, and his wife, Sally, Leon Jones and his wife, Judy, all of Brownfield, Texas, Marvin Jones of Morse, Texas, and Larry Jones and his wife, Pat, of Shiloh, Ill.; four daughters, Barbara Jones of Chanute, Alice Davis of Oswego, Vickie Caluus and her husband, James, of Montana, Kan., and Pamela Stammer and her husband, Karl, of Joplin; two sisters, Virginia Simone of Oswego and Ruth Carrendar of Manhattan; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Jones, in 1974; three brothers; and two sisters.

The service will be at 11 a.m. at Oswego Cemetery with Phil Hays of the Oswego Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Murdock Funeral Home, Oswego. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. on the day of the service for visitation prior to going to the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Oswego Christian Church and may be left at or sent to the funeral home, 203 Illinois, Oswego, 67356.
