LAKEVILLE, Ind. -- Orlyn E. Bennett, 82, of Lakeville, Ind., died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Hubbard Hill Estates in Elkhart, Ind.
He was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Altamont to Clayton and Mabel (Houck) Bennett.
Mr. Bennett graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont. He was a self-employed farmer and carpenter and drove a school bus for Altamont USD 506 for 24 years. He moved to Lakeville in September 2007.
On Dec. 15, 1947, he married Jessie May Carr in Coffeyville. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 1985. On Oct. 4, 1989, he married Dorothy (Weingart) Powell. She survives of Midway, Ga.
Other survivors include his daughter, Rosadene Herold and her husband, John L., of Lakeville, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Knight and her husband, David, of Midway, Ga.; a granddaughter, Ronda M. Herold; and seven stepgrandchildren, Charles Schultz, Jennifer Reese, Lisa Powell, Amanda Powell, Crystal Powell, Rachel Herold and J. Louis Herold.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Bennett; and two daughters, June Bennett and Sue Bennett.
The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
