He was born Feb. 24, 1919, in Corwin to Frank and D. Mary (Pasley) Bumgarner. He graduated from Attica High School in 1937 and received a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in music from Bethel College in North Newton in 1942. He attended United Theological (Bonebrake) Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, from 1944 to 1947, earning a master of divinity degree.
The Rev. Bumgarner pastored for 30 years, including 11 years at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Parsons (1952-1963).
He married Mildred Ruth Unruh on June 1, 1943, in Newton. She died in 2008.
Survivors include five children, Kenneth Baumgarner of Sydney, Australia, Keith Bumgarner, Betty Butler, Don Bumgarner, all of Huntsville, Ark., and Bruce Bumgarner of Plano, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil H. Bumgarner; and a sister, Bethel M. Acuff.
A family graveside service will be today at Aurora Cemetery in Aurora, Ark. A memorial service will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Carroll Electric Community Room in Huntsville, Ark.
