Jerry A. Dixon Sr., 66, of Parsons was found at his home on Sunday afternoon. He was in his usual health, and his death was unexpected.

He was born on July 7, 1946, at Parsons to Raymond and Ruth (Tunget) Dixon. He grew up at Parsons and attended Service Valley and Labette County schools. He graduated from Labette County High School in 1964.

He worked for the city of Parsons in the street department. He later worked as a patrolman at Lake Parsons and at the water treatment plant. He retired in 1999.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, the outdoors, Elvis Presley and his grandchildren. He also collected Elvis memorabilia. He wrote songs and had one produced called “God Came Last Night.” He attended the Church of God.

He married Edna Branham in 1967. They later divorced.

Survivors include a son, Jerry A. Dixon Jr., and his wife, Tina, of Parsons; three daughters, Ruth Haile and her husband, Mike, of Parsons, Addie Garretson, and her fiance, Randy Taylor, of Fort Scott and Kim Wolgamott of Tulsa; eight grandchildren, Ashley Wolgamott, Amanda Haile, Michael Haile, Dalton Dixon, Alyssa Dixon, Allie Maffei, Taylor Bargen and Travis Hallam Jr.; a great-grandson, Jase Blackburn; and three sisters, Carol Colvin, Jean Samples and Kay Pratt, all of Parsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ed Dixon.

The graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The casket will remain closed.
