Lou was born on Aug. 26, 1933, in Greeley to August and Gertrude (Lanzrath) Wolken. He graduated from Greeley High School in 1951.
He was a member of the U.S. Army stationed in Germany.
He married Jeanette Van Leeuwen on Oct. 3, 1959, in St. Paul. This union was blessed with five children. She survives of the home.
Lou worked as a pipefitter for 45 years and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local No. 441. He worked for General Motors and was a member of the U.A.W. for 11 years.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Greeley and the Knights of Columbus Chapter 1901. Lou was on the St. John’s School Board and St. John’s Parish Council. His life was his grandkids. He enjoyed gardening and puttering in his shop.
Other survivors include two sons, Gus Wolken and Jim Wolken and his wife, Kelli, all of Greeley; three daughters, Jane Campbell and her husband, Craig, of Fort Scott, Eileen Bertels and Bill Jewell of Mayetta and Sharon Mader and her husband, Alan, of Baldwin City; a brother, John Wolken; five sisters, Delores Ginbey, Kathleen Guilfoyle, Mary Agnes Obermeier, Bernadette Madison and Betty Rainwater; 13 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Ryan Campbell.
The Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Church in Greeley. Burial will follow in the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Greeley. The family will receive friends following a rosary at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
