CHETOPA — Kenneth J. Porter, 79, of Chetopa died at 8:10 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Chetopa Manor nursing home.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1934, in Scoffield, Mo., to Leo Beacher and Geraldine (Camel) Porter. As a young boy, he attended Mound Valley Grade School. 

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He owned and operated a grocery store in Bronaugh, Mo., until his retirement.

Survivors include two sons, Kenny Porter of Chetopa and Kevin Porter of Nevada, Mo.; two daughters, Charisse Shaffer of Monkey Island, Okla., and Terri Wyrick of Wyandotte, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gerri Drake; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
