She was born on Aug. 23, 1917, on a farm north of McCune to William Homer and Maggie R. (Ulery) Ruby. She was the youngest of seven children. She grew up in the McCune area and attended Mount Carmel Country School.
Her first marriage was to Robert Leslie Hobson on Dec. 7, 1935, in rural McCune. He was killed in action on Jan. 3, 1945, in northern France during the Battle of the Bulge.
She married Donald J. Hardman on Aug. 19, 1952, in Bentonville, Ark. He preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2007.
Dorothy had lived in Parsons since 1944 and had been employed at various places, including Belmont Market and the State Bank of Parsons, where she was the first drive-in bank teller in Parsons. Later she worked in the office at Broderick Co. from 1963 until her retirement in 1979.
She was a member of Foursquare Church and was a life member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (Hobson) Roach of Stilwell; and many nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters and her son-in-law, Howard Roach.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
