Betty L. McWilliams, 89, of Parsons died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Oswego Community Hospital.

She was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Fort Scott to William S. and Blanche Emma (Williams) Batley.  She grew up in Fort Scott where she attended schools and was a graduate of Fort Scott High School and later Fort Scott Junior College, where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught one year prior to marriage.

On April 17, 1946, she married Glenn H. McWilliams in Fort Scott. Following marriage, they lived in various towns in Kansas and Missouri before returning to Fort Scott in 1980. They remained in Fort Scott until 1996, at which time they moved to Parsons. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2007.

She enjoyed reading, NASCAR, baseball, football, collecting bells and playing dominoes and cards.

Survivors include two sons, Glenn McWilliams Jr. and Tom McWilliams, both of Parsons; a daughter, Barbara Nugen of Edgerton; four granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-granchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Scott. Friends may call at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons after 11 a.m. today.
