Scott E. Tyler, 48, of Parsons died at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Labette Health in Parsons. He had been in failing health.

He was born on Jan. 30, 1964, at Parsons to Jerold E. and Barbara E. (Scott) Tyler. He grew up near Dennis and attended Meadow View Grade School and Labette County High School.

He farmed and raised cattle on the family farm near Dennis. He worked at Stover’s Standard and Orscheln Farm and Home store and owned and operated TNT Tire.

Scott was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and riding four-wheelers. He also enjoyed shooting and was a great marksman. He was active in volunteering for the Labette County Fire District No. 9 and the Osage Township Fire Department. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross during the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. He loved to have hog roasts for family and friends and going to monster truck shows. He attended Dennis United Methodist Church.

He married Jean Hallett in 1984. They later divorced.

Survivors include his son, Jeremy Tyler and his wife, Amanda, of Parsons; two daughters, Crystal Stringer and her husband, Jared, of rural Parsons and Amber Helton and her husband, Will, of Parsons; his mother, Barbara Hoover and her husband, Jerry, of Bixby, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Kylee Barney, Maddyson Tyler, Katelynn Tyler, Kelsey Stringer, Tyler Stringer, Olier Helton and Theo Helton; his brother, Kregg Tyler of Jenks, Okla.; four sisters, Debbie Ward and her husband, Steve, of Abilene, Texas, Becky Bisel and her husband, Harry, of Overland Park, Lori Howard and her husband, Bob, of Jenks, Okla., and Melissa Abitz and her husband, Paul, of Tulsa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerold Tyler.

The service will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
