He was born on March 3, 1931, in Kansas City, Mo., to Harvey and Ethel Gay Shane.
After graduating from the University of Kansas in Lawrence with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, he worked at McDonnell Douglas as an aerospace engineer until his retirement. During his years of employment, he was the project engineer for three major projects, a Nike Zeus Missile, a manned orbiting laboratory and various military satellites. He also served his country in the Korean War with the Navy.
On Dec. 18, 1954, he married Erma Aileen Parker in Parsons. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Leslie Musselman and her husband, William, of Marina, Calif.; a son, Mike Shane and his wife, Cindy, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
His parents and a brother, Harvey Shane Jr,. preceded him in death.
The graveside service with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, Mo., with the Rev. Jim Shremp officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
