Helen Tustison, 91, of Parsons died at 8:05 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the Elmhaven West. She had been in failing health.

She was born Aug. 10, 1921, in Parsons to Perry T. and Eliza J. (Hitchcock) LaRue. She graduated from Parsons High School in 1939 and attended Parsons Junior College. Later she attended Louisiana State University.

On Dec. 25, 1941, (Christmas Day) she and Leonel Tustison were married in the First Presbyterian Church in Parsons. They moved to Baton Rouge, La., in 1942 and lived there until returning to Parsons in 1993.

Mrs. Tustison was a past president of the Louisiana Art and Artists Guild and had been a member of the Baton Rouge Garden Club. She enjoyed painting, reading and gardening.

Mr. Tustison survived and died later the same day.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Judy Mercado, Martha Screws, Mary Myers, Albert LaRue Jr. and Gary LaRue.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lela Mercer; and four brothers, Blair “Pete” LaRue, Hutton LaRue, Tom LaRue and Albert LaRue.

The service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience on Tuesday.
