ALTOONA — Margaret Jeanne Russell, 84, a longtime resident of rural Altoona, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1928, in Neodesha to Harry and Agnes “Marie” (Steele) Green. She was a 1946 graduate of Altoona High School.

On Oct. 17, 1954, at Altoona United Methodist Church, she married Floyd Arthur Russell. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2011.

She was employed at the Garment Factory in Chanute for a few years but spent most of her life helping Floyd operate the family farm, being a homemaker and mother to their five children.

She was an active member of Altoona United Methodist Church and current chairperson for the church trustees, as well as a past member of United Methodist Women. She was involved in the Altoona United Methodist Food Pantry, a founding member of the Altoona Days Association and a past member of Eastern Star. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress, making prom dresses and wedding dresses for her girls. She also loved working in her vegetable garden and caring for her plants and flowers.

Survivors include four daughters, Debra Meigs of Altoona, Linda Rogers and her husband, Roosevelt, of Parker, Colo., and Patricia Russell and Kathy Klauman and her husband, Larry, all of Chanute; a son, Michael Russell and his wife, Kim, of Altoona; two sisters, Dorothy Varner of Benedict and Mary Larkin of Chanute; a brother, Eugene Green of Chanute; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Alan Russell; and two brothers, Larry Green and Clifford Green.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Altoona United Methodist Church with Pastor Jose Miranda officiating. Burial will be in Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia.
