Marjorie Louise Larsen, 85, of Parsons died at 6:38 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at the home of her son, David, in Parsons. Death followed a brief period of failing health.

She was born on June 4, 1927, in Vinita, Okla., to Alfred Estle Manners Sr. and Adeline (Pasley) Manners. The family moved to the rural area east of Parsons when she was young, and she was the fifth generation of the Manners family to live in that area. She attended Labette County Community High School at Altamont.

On April 6, 1946, she married Melvin Larsen at Liberal, Mo. They had been married for 66 years when he preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2012.

Besides her five sons and families, she loved her church, First Foursquare Church, where she was very active and enjoyed her church family. She was a member of the Center Chapel Club and in younger years she and Melvin loved to square dance and belonged to several square dance clubs.

She was a homemaker and loved to sew and was talented in making clothes for her family and curtains for her home and for others.

They lived in California a few years before locating in Shawnee. For seven years, she worked as a teacher’s aide at Hocker Grove School in Shawnee. In 1981, they returned to Parsons and built a new home east of town.

Survivors include five sons, David Larsen and his wife, Mary, of Parsons, Steve Larsen of Otterville, Mo., Bob Larsen and his wife, Peggy, of Overland Park, Gary Larsen and his wife, Julie, of Kansas City, Mo., and Kevin Larsen and his companion, Shelly, of Olathe; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfred Manners and his wife, Nancy, of Parsons; a sister, Linda Dessenberger and her husband, Larry, of Parsons; a sister-in-law, Jeannie Manners of Parsons; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth Manners; a sister, Mertie Riepe; and an infant sister.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
