Glen was born in Edna, Kansas, on January 25, 1916, to Eugene Edward and Pearl (Steigmeir) More. His mother passed away when he was 7 years old and his dad and he spent a few years in Bellingham, Washington, with his grandparents. Upon returning to Kansas, his dad married Flossie Robison Heel and they made their home in Mound Valley, Kansas. Glen graduated from Mound Valley High School in 1936.
On July 18, 1937, he was married to Annetta Oliphant in Edna, Kansas. Together they owned and operated the Glen More Phillips 66 Service Station & Grocery in Mound Valley, Kansas, for over 40 years, retiring to Grove, Oklahoma.
Glen was a member of the Mound Valley Methodist Church since he was a young boy and cherished his church and many friends and neighbors in the community. Throughout the years, he was involved with the Booster Club and many civic organizations. He loved to fish and also bowl. He and Annetta especially enjoyed attending the alumni banquets. Only their health would keep them from attending. He was a very loving and caring father and will be missed by his loving family.
Surviving Glen is his loving family, daughters, Carole and Jim Lewis, Rogersville, MO., Beverly Kaye and Curtis Schmitz, Independence, KS, Pamela and Rick Hawthorne, Terrell, Texas; six grandchildren, Jasen Lewis, Chad and Christina Lewis, all of Springfield, Mo., Ryan and Shelly Schmitz, Carl Junction, Mo., Gavin & Melaine Schmitz, Hutchinson, KS, Amber and Greg Helm, Terrell, Texas, Eric Hawthorne, Stephenville, Texas; 10 great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Benjamin and Jacob Lewis (Jasen’s), Ava Lewis (Chad’s), Matthew and Addison Schmitz (Ryan’s), Madigan and Mason Schmitz (Gavin’s), Landry and Lauren Helm (Amber’s); two great-great-granddaughters, Amelia Gompf (Chelsea’s), Kadance Lewis (Ben’s).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annetta More on December 16, 2010. They had celebrated 73 years of marriage prior to her passing. Also preceding him in death were his mother, dad and stepmother, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at the Mound Valley Cemetery in Mound Valley, KS, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Mound Valley Community Center. Friends may call at their convenience from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mound Valley Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 325, Altamont, KS, 67330.
