Jack G. Middleton, 84, of Parsons died at 12:40 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Elmhaven West.

He was born June 22, 1928, in Hallowell to Ralph and Goldie Gertrude (Koons) Middleton. He grew up and attended school in McCune, where he graduated from McCune High School.

While serving in the United States Army for two years, he did surveying in Alaska. Upon his return to Southeast Kansas, he worked in sales at Gamble’s Store and Montgomery Wards. He then worked in the maintenance department at Labette Community College until retiring.

He was a member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Parsons. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and camping.

He married Phyllis Rice on Aug. 23, 1953, at the First Baptist Church in Parsons. They later divorced.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Middleton of Altamont and David Middleton of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Peggy Gatewood and her husband, James, and Christina Middleton, all of Parsons; four grandchildren, Megan Stoneberger, Alex Stoneberger, Jeremiah Middleton and April Middleton; and a sister, Norma Tullis of Sedalia, Mo.

He was preceded in death by a sister, June Woods.

Following cremation, a graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons under the direction of Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.
