Harold L. Parsons, 101, of Parsons died at 2 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009, at Elmhaven West nursing home in Parsons.

He was born July 23, 1907, in Parsons to William R. and Rosa (Jones) Parsons. He attended Parsons High School and Parsons Junior College.

He lived in Parsons until 1951 and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier from 1941 until 1951. He also was employed in the U.S. Postal Service at Bell, Calif., from 1951 to 1956, at Fullerton, Calif., from 1956 to 1960, at Little Rock, Ark., from 1960 until his retirement in 1963. He lived briefly in Atlanta, Texas, Longview, Texas, and Ardmore, Okla., before moving to Paris, Texas, in 1972. He lived there until returning to Parsons in 2001.

He had been active in churches in the various communities where he lived and in Paris, Texas, was a member of the Paris Bible Church. After returning to Parsons, he became a member of Faith United Methodist Church.

On Sept. 17, 1936, he married Irene J. Jones at Independence. he preceded him in death on March 9, 2001.

Survivors include a son, Leonard E. Parsons, of the home.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Horace Parsons and Jesse Parsons; and two sisters, Elizabeth Lewis and Mabel Packwood.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Faith United Methodist Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons.

The family will receive friends at Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church.
