He was born Nov. 3, 1925, at Yates Center a son of Peter J. and Marie F. (Massoth) Yohon. He was raised at Yates Center and attended school there. In 1947 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Upon his discharge he moved to Parsons and began working for the Katy Railroad. He worked for the railroad for 32 years, retiring in 1982.
He married Laura Hurd on Sept. 15, 1967, in Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 2007.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Knight’s of Columbus. He also belonged to the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include three daughters, Joeann Saunders of St. Joseph, Mo., Mary Ruth Vinson and Gloria June Gardner, both of Parsons; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Juliana Sievers of Yates Center and Ella Mae Sievers of Powell, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Yohon; and an infant sister, Mildred Yohon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Parsons. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Owl Creek Cemetery at Yates Center. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today with visitation following at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
