Lynn R. Brinkman, 54, of Parsons, died at 1:50 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at the Presbyterian Manor in Parsons following a brief, courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on Aug. 15, 1958, at Emporia to Lowell Dean and Ida Jo (Haag) Swisher. She grew up at Reading and attended Reading schools, graduating from Reading High School in 1976. She graduated from the Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia with a degree in nursing.

She married Joseph Douglas "Doug" Brinkman on Aug. 30, 1980, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Olpe. He survives of the home.

She worked at Newman Hospital in Emporia from 1977 to 1979. She moved to Madison in 1979 and worked at the Madison Manor until 1985. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., and she worked at the Cheyenne Mountain Nursing Home until 1990, when the family moved to Parsons. She then worked at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor until this year when she retired because of her health.

Lynn was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. She cherished her family and was very involved in her children’s activities. She enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling and her dogs. She loved caring for patients and her job as a nurse.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Bryan Brinkman and his fiancé, Chelsea Sevart of Owasso, Okla., and A.J. Brinkman and his wife, Melissa, of Manhattan; her daughter, Kylie Smith and her husband, Justin, of Rose Hill; her grandson, Kaden Lee Brinkman of Manhattan; her mother and stepfather, Ida Jo and Bill Jones of Olpe; three brothers, Jim Swisher and his wife, Dixie, of Inman, Lonnie Swisher and his wife, Nancy, of Lebo and Benny Swisher of Hutchinson; three sisters, Lisa Cox and her husband, Bill, of Madison, Dena Swisher of Auburn and Brenda Seaton of Auburn; several aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lowell Swisher.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
