FREEDOM, Okla. — Mary Alice Rose McCormick, 66, of Freedom, Okla., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012.

She was born on March 11, 1946, in Chanute to Emil and Anna Wagner Kennedy. She attended school at St. Paul. 

On Nov. 28, 1964, she married Melvin Rose at Erie. To this union two children, Marilyn and Mike, were born.

She married Paul McCormick on July 21, 1996, at El Dorado. Paul and Mary spent time in their Freedom home and also in their home in Kansas. He preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 2000.

She worked many years at restaurants in the Freedom area. She also mowed numerous yards in her little community. Mary was a hard worker with a golden heart. She would do anything for anybody. She will be best remembered as the beverage server at almost every funeral or church dinner going on in Freedom. 

She attended the Freedom Christian Church, where she was active in Bible study and also enjoyed going to the Methodist Church for Bible study with another group of friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Shiever and her husband, Howard, of Chanute; a son, Mike Rose and his fiancé, Mary Schild, of Chanute; a sister, Alberta Westhoff of St. Paul; two brothers and their wives, Emil “Red” Kennedy and Alyene of St. Paul and Raymond Kennedy and Faye of Munford, Tenn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. She is also survived by her “adopted” family, Dalene Dauphin and her children and grandchildren and the Betty Harris family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Sebastian Michael; a sister, Betty Anne; and her husbands. 

The service was on Monday at Freedom Christian Church. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Village Creek Cemetery, Chanute. Wharton’s Funeral Chapel, Ava, Okla., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to a “love fund” for expenses and can be left at Freedom State Bank.
