He was born on Oct. 1, 1941, at Montana, Kan., to James and Elva (Cochran) Merry. He grew up in the Montana and Parsons areas and attended Parsons High School. For the past 40 years, he had lived in Altamont.
For many years, he was employed at Olson’s Supermarket, later Rooster’s Thriftway, in Parsons. For several years before retirement, he was a salesman for Cain’s Coffee Co.
He attended Assembly of God Church in Oswego and in earlier years the Foursquare Church in Parsons. He loved spending time with his family.
On June 12, 1966, he married Dana McCartney at Foursquare Church in Parsons. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Gena Landis and her husband, David, of Altamont and Debra Parish and her husband, Scott, of Arma; five grandchildren, Evan, Samantha and Sydney Landis, all of Altamont, and Avery and Nathaniel Parish, both of Arma; and two brothers, James Merry of Wichita and Daniel Merry of Conway, Ark.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be later at North Edna Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Covenant Harvest School in Pittsburg, where his daughter is principal and his grandchildren are students, and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, Box 942, Parsons, 67357.
