Debra K. 'Debbie' Marks

Debra K. "Debbie" Marks, 54, of Parsons went home to be with her Lord at 2 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at her home. She had been in failing health the past year.

She was born Nov. 22, 1954, in Parsons to Cecil R. and Pearl J. (McKnight) Overall. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Wichita, where she grew up and attended schools.

In 1998, she returned to Parsons, where she had lived since. She worked as a certified nursing assistant for several years in various cities and most recently had worked at Ruskin Manufacturing and Wal-Mart.

She was a member of the Glory Barn Church in Parsons and enjoyed singing in the choir there. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She married John N. Marks on Feb. 23, 2002, in Parsons. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include her parents, Cecil and Pearl Overall of Parsons; a son, Billy Carr II of Wichita; two daughters, Teresa Engro and Charlotte Carr, both of Douglass; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Jimmie Overall Sr. and his wife, Terry, of Parsons and John Overall and his wife, Kendra, of Parsons; a sister, Sarah Hammans and her husband, Carmin, of Parsons; a mother-in-law, Gladys LaForge of Parsons; a sister-in-law, Joyce Wilkerson and her husband, Cal, of Durant, Okla.; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Marks of Parsons and Gary Marks and his wife, Coleen, of Parsons.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mandy Carr.

The service will be at 2 p.m. today at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ruth I. McGuire

Ruth I. McGuire, 79, of Parsons, formerly of Cherryvale, died at 3:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Labette Health. She had been in failing health.

She was born June 22, 1929, in Thayer to John and Pearl Mae (Bundy) Plotner. She grew up and attended school in Thayer.

She married Warren Gene McGuire. They later divorced.

Survivors include three sons, Bill McGuire of Altamont, Jack McGuire of Mound Valley and Edwin McGuire of Spring, Texas; four daughters, Mary JoAnn Jordan of Arkansas City, Linda Busse of Altoona, Sharon Wilson and Becky Ellison, both of Cherryvale; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mound Valley Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
